Algorithms

Interesting TED talk about algorithms by Kevin Slavin. I think I’m supposed to be fearful of algorithms and their “power” over our daily lives, but I’m a little skeptical of how fearful I should actually be. It seems like our lives have always been controlled by algorithms of some sort or another and that seeking speed in our algorithms doesn’t seem like an outrageous thing. Hmmm...I’ll have to think about this more. Check out the TED talk here.  OOOh! Also, my friend Gustavo pointed out that this TED talk was used an an example of “Isisism” on Language Log (see http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=3361).
