A few days ago I was having a discussion with a fellow grad student who was trying to extract the data from a graph. This is the type of problem you encounter when you want the numbers that generated the graph, but all you have is the graph itself. I found this neat little web tool developed by Ankit Rohatgi (a grad student at Notre Dame) which lets you drop in an image of the graph, set some axes then pull out points either manually or automatically. Check it out here: http://arohatgi.info/WebPlotDigitizer/
