Other things
This page is for things I've worked on that are not central to my own academic research — other projects, big and small.
Teaching resources
I have a sub-page of teaching resources (handouts, etc.) here.
Online projects
- Oppenheimer: A Life (Scientific American Science & Technology Web Awards 2004 recipient). (I wrote and designed this site for the occasion of the 100th anniversary of J. Robert Oppenheimer's birth.)
- History of Science and Technology Sources Database. (I did the backend database programming on this project.)
- ATOMLAND-ON-MARS. Rare pictures of the nuclear world that I have collected over time.
Web design
- Secrecy — documentary film by Peter Galison and Robb Moss — I did some research for the film and did the web design as well.
- Hanna Rose Shell's website (design)
- Ellen Bales' website (design)
- Jay Jasanoff's website (design)
- Science and Democracy Network website (design)
- So Simple a Beginning. An experimental academic collaboration in a blog-like format on the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species. (design)
- States of Secrecy. An academic conference I am co-organizing with Daniel Margocsy and Koen Vermeir (and I also designed the website).
Print design
All of the below are just some samples of some of the printed graphic design work I have done over the past few years. Click to view the full PDFs. If you hold your mouse pointer over them for a second it'll tell you (in brief) what they are, if it isn't apparent.
Historical things
- My postcard and artifact collection — primarily of California state mental hospitals.
- How to Live with Atom — a cartoon from The Washington Post, August 1947, on the precarious position of the post-Hiroshima world.
- Harry H. Laughlin's "Model Eugenical Sterilization Law" (1922) — an influential historical document that wasn't anywhere else on the web
- The Secret Patents of the Atomic Bomb — compilation of information about the Manhattan Project patenting program
- Everett Mendelsohn: The Movie — a little 10 min. film I was asked to put together by the Department for the event of Everett's retirement in October 2007. My first foray into filmmaking of any sort. Original footage shot with the little camera on my MacBook. It was screened as a surprise at a dinner in Everett's honor attended by Everett, his family, and his numerous former students.
Miscellanous
- MS Access bits & pieces — boring to all but non-MS Access programmers, and probably boring to them too.
