PRAHA - DININGNOTE: It is impossible to list every hotel and every restaurant. Rather, listed below are only those establishments at different price ranges that were recommended by fellow 'Netizens.' |

| Expensive: | "Our big splurge. 4 delicious courses. We booked a table with a view of the castle. Highly recommended." | ||||||||||
| Moderate: |
"Conveniently positioned next to the Loreto convent. Affable management, comfortable furnishings, spacious, clean. Fare straightforward, but decent. Excellent place to eat outside in the summer." "In one of Nerudova's most distinguished buildings. Recently refurbished with rustic decor. Prompt service; clean; tasty cheese fritters." "Excellent cafe/bistro near the Rudolfinum. Loved the duck and apple strudel!" "The ambiance was warm, food was delicious, service was excellent (even though we arrived a half hour before closing) and the bill for a full dinner with wine, desert, and coffee was not much over 1,000 Ck. We would recommend it highly" "One of the specialities is 'Old Bohemian Plate.' It's a sampler of different dumplings (flour, bread and potato) along with sauerkraut, beef, duck and pork."
Inexpensive:
|
| "nice place...friendly service, fairly classy, excellent food... for the four of us, including drinks and wine, the tab was 780 Kc...(about US$ 30)" "Good hearty, traditional Czech food in a pub atmosphere. A fun place."
Other lunch, snack and people-watching joints:
|
| "If you're looking for good, cheap pizza and pasta, the Pizzeria Colosseum on Vodickova works well." "And if anyone wants a U.S. style pizza delivered in Prague, they can call 'Chicago's Famous Pizza Company' (316-4242)" "They stopped the free internet as far as I know as it was costing them big bucks. I think it was a marketing ploy to get people into the new location." "An American bagel place with a large, cheap menu and internet. Other locations around town."
VEGETARIAN FARE:
|
| "Actually, a very good thing to do is to go to the American Express location and buy a small book that they have there. It was written for Amex by expat Americans, who are vegetarian and living in Prague. It's called Prague Naturally".

Restaurant 7 Angels, Jilska 20, located downtown near Staromestske Square. | "A typical tourist trap where we were promised an original Bohemian dinner for Kc 380 per person. However, the food was disappointing (the duck had no meat to it, only bones) and so was the bill: we had to pay a total of Kc 3500 (USD 110.-) due to accepted 'hors d'ouvres' that turned out to be non-complimentary. They were extremely expensive, as was the overpriced (Kc 490) bottle of ordinary wine. On top of it, this place was the only one out of twelve or so places we went for lunch and dinner, where the service was not included. They required extra Kc 160 + Kc 420 = Kc 580 for 'table and service charge.' We are sure that all of this is legal and we could have known if we were allowed the time and peace to study the menu. However the tactical approach of the waiters was to give us as little time as possible to study the menu and to frequently interrupt ..... Hence, a no-go!"

| "Hostinec translates roughly as a 'neighborhood pub'. If you go off the tourist path into the neighborhoods and see this usually green sign, it'll mean a good, cheap experience in drinking beer and eating gulas. HOWEVER: these pubs are very smoky, often loud, English is rarely spoken, and you share a table with regulars. Restaurace is a step up, with less smoke and noise and (maybe) better food." "The magic word here is 'pivovar' which means beer-hall with food i.e. they brew their own beer onsite, and that means it's really nice and fresh. The food in those places is a bit basic, just the standard Czech stuff usually; stew and dumplings, but it's filling enough and soaks up the beer, of which you will drink a lot." |
