Introduction to conceptual foundations and explanatory models of psychopathology and to problems in defining impaired psychological functioning. The course focuses on an intensive overview of forms of major mental disorders, their descriptive features and classification, and their possible several causes (for example, cerebral dysregulation or intra-psychic conflict, dysfunctional cognitions or developmental liabilities). Mood disorders will illustrate contentious issues of aetiology and methods of treatment in a historical perspective. Students will analyze several case studies to inform them of clinical dilemmas in applying theories.
