Almost a century after Huizinga’s epoch-making book, Dutch medievalists have substantially revised his views on the literature and culture of Flanders and the Netherlands in the 14th and 15th centuries. This course examines Dutch literary culture of the period (including the seminal 13th century). Particular attention will be paid to the place of the Netherlands and Flanders in the culture of late medieval Europe.
