My love of elephants began at the tender age of four, when I was going through pictures of my father's photos from his safari trip in Zimbabwe. I do not even know why I liked them so much--perhaps because I was so small and they were the biggest animals I had ever seen. Regardless, from that moment on, I would ask my father every year to take me to Zimbabwe to see them up close.
Fast forward to August 2010, when I was perched on the jump seat on an open-top Jeep, watching an elephant tearing down a tree. As scared as I was, I could not resist the temptation to get closer to it. It was a dream come true!
Because of my love of elephants, I was concerned when our safari guide told us about the poaching problem in Africa. If I do not do anything, I will be letting my favorite animals down. I would like to do everything to preserve this beautiful species.
