String Theory

Someone said "You don't do physics, physics is a lifestyle." It is almost like a religion in that it changed how I think and how I see.
I am at Harvard High Energy Theory Group since October 13, 2006

Teaching

I worked as a TF for 7 semesters at Harvard. I try hard to related to students and to use lots of simplifying analogies. I received 3 prizes and 1 nomination :D

Useful Mechanics Handout I made this handout for Physics 11a a course by Prof Cumrun Vafa, as a present to my students. Partly inspired by Prof Jenny Hoffman and my students. The mechanics of music, rowing, tennis, sports, medicine, skiing, basketball, household, and ballet! I photocopied parts of various books, relevant to course material, then try to write some explanation, wrote down the Harvard Library Call Number, so that the student can easily find the original book. :-)
Physics 11a section handouts etc I made this rather standard handout for Physics 11a a course by Prof Cumrun Vafa, for weakly section meetings.

I was a TF in Fall 2004, helping a blind student in Electromagnetism and General Relativity classes. I produced LaTeX lecture notes, and 3d diagrams. For example, using wires of various texture, I made various Penrose diagrams which can be felt by hands. Also used some paper origami to build other 3d constructions. Read LaTeX2Tri: Physics and Mathematics for the Blind or Visually Impaired by Dr David M. Thompson to see how his cool program converts LaTeX into Triangle (voice).
I was Prof Eric Mazur's TF in spring 2005 Physics 1b. He has innovative ideas about teaching introductory physics courses.
I was Prof Jenny Hoffman's TF for Physics 11a during Fall 2005. She wanted to integrate real world into mechanics class.
I was Prof Eric Heller's TF for ScienceA-49 Fall 2008. Physics and Science of Sound and Music!! What a fun class! An inspiring and invigorating experience to work with Kate Jensen in a team.
Also I am in (Post) Doctoral Advisory Board for THURJ: The Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal

TeX and LaTeX

PC

Scientific WorkPlace Makes LaTeX "what you see what you get" a lot easier (compiler is included) It was a big investment, but it saved lots of time and effort.
WinEdt WinEdt for TeX and LaTeX
TeXtext You can make EPS image files with LaTeX equations embedded together!! Also needs InkScape (thanks Vincent!)
MiKTeX Project Page For LaTeX and TeX. Install this after WinEdt for example.
Tkpaint Make eps files

Mac

Emiliano Imeroni's Home Site Lots of info about Mac and LaTeX and string theory.
TeXShop LaTeX and TeX If you apple-click, you can go back and forth between specific locations of source and pdf output.

This is the end of physics section of my webpage. (last updated on Oct 1 2009)

Jihye Seo in Minkowski space

Here comes the rest of my life. (last updated on Oct 1 2009)

Opera

A safe vent for strong emotions. A human voice is my favorite musical instrument. (next favorite is string) I used to sing in chorus for about half of my life.

Aria Database
Main Page - IMSLP Used to get free scores from here
Regnava nel silenzio PDF score This is my favorite opera aria, written by Donizetti. I heard it for the first time at a full opera production of Lucia near my college (KAIST).
Charles Blandy (Tenor) I improved my breath conrol and freed my voice while taking voice lessons from him during summer 2005- summer 2006.

Ballet Classes

My favorite physical activity is working out in ballet classes. It gives strength, balance, and elegance. I started taking ballet classes in 2005 Summer, when I literally tumbled upon an advertisement for Adult Beginning Ballet classes at Dance Complex. Before that, I did not even imagine such a thing would exist. I tried it out out of curiosity, only to find myself falling into it immediately.

Anna Myer My first ballet teacher (May 2005), at Dance Complex. Her classes are invigorating!
Margot Parsons I took 3 semesters (starting Fall 2005) of her classes at Harvard Dance Center. Such a loving and attentive teacher!
Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre Beginning ballet 2 and Elementary ballet (Susan, Julie) - I plan to take their Adult Pointe Class
For Students - Office for the Arts at Harvard Office for the Arts at Harvard
Cambridge Center for Adult Education - Susan Alt Susan Alt pays lots of attention to everyone. Took 2 semesters with her.
Harvard Dance Center Dance Classes Margot Parsons and Catherine Ulissey (Both accompanied by piano by Raht Ketusingha) - I took Katie's class for 2 semesters. She was the original cast in Phantom of the Opera as Meg Giry. She pays so much attention to how you can improve, and she is so generous and loving.
Dance Complex Ballet Classes Tried Anna Myer and Liz Lapuh
Village Fitness Susan Alt
Alexandre Seillier - Montreal Went to his class once. Rather magical.
Ballet Divertimento - Montreal
Joffrey Ballet - NYC
Boulder Ballet - Colorado considered taking it during TASI :) but ended up using the university gym to swim instead :-)
The Physics of Dance Research on mechanics of ballet by a physics Prof George Gollin at UIUC
Ballet at a local gym Healthworks with Walter G

Dance Classes

African Dance at a local gym Healthworks with Wyoma
Musical Theater I took a musical theater class in Spring 2008 at Cambridge Center for Adult Education. We did Cell Block Tango from Chicago, Slap that bass, and Skid Row.
Celina Garrison Lutz Our teacher. We had lots of fun making our own choreography. Learned some cool moves too. She teaches hip hop as well.
Skid Row
Slap that Bass

Carl Alleyne - Hip Hop Hip hop empowerment class at Dance Complex
FiveGuysNamedMike - Swing Swing dance classes on Monday evenings at Harvard Square
Tova and Carlos Moreno - Tango They teach you for both leading and following roles. I did their class in Spring 2005 at Dudley House at Harvard.
David Black - Tango Thursday evening classes at MIT
Pope Flyne - Western African Dance UC Berkeley Summer of 2000

Skiing

It is my favorite winter activity! I am mostly on blue and one diamond, but in a familiar mountain I would dare double diamond and forest runs.
