Baseball and American Society, 1840 to the Present

This course will examine the history of baseball within the context of cultural and social history. The focus will be on the ways in which baseball has reflected social, economic, and cultural changes in American history from the beginning of the game to the present. More attention will be given to the period before 1950 than the recent era.
