4 units
1-3:30 pm

Norman Bryson

This course investigates the place of visual representation in modern culture, from the early eighteenth century to today, across the whole range of artistic media, including painting, sculpture, and photography, as well as video, installation, and performance art. Central to the course is the question "What is modernity?" and the role of visual art in defining various, often conflicting, senses of the modern.
