Principles of Cell Biology

4 units
8-9 am

Robert G Van Buskirk

This course is an introduction to the structure and function of cells. Emphasis will be placed on exploring modern research techniques such as transmission electron microscopy and gel electrophoresis used to understand cell function. Emphasis will be placed on the cellular and molecular basis of selected disease states such as hypercholesterolemia and diabetes. Modern techniques used to treat cancer will be used as a window to understand the molecular basis of cancer. Lectures will include multimedia (animations, time-lapse microscopy) presentations of cellular processes.
